Houston Dynamo vs. New England Revolution, 2012 MLS: Final score 2-0, Dynamo strike late to win

As the Crew and Red Bulls raced to wins, the Houston Dynamo desperately needed to get all three points on Saturday to keep pace in the Eastern Conference playoff race. For 78 minutes, it didn't look like they would be able to, but the final 12 minutes turned square in the favor of the men in orange and goals by Ricardo Clark and Boniek Garcia led them to a vital 2-0 win over the New England Revolution.

The win keeps the Dynamo’s undefeated mark at BBVA Compass Stadium intact as their home field continued to help their playoff push. Houston currently occupies the fifth and final playoff spot in the East, just one point ahead of Columbus with three matches left.

The best chances in the first half came from New England, who got some good play from Benny Feilhaber and occasionally tested Tally Hall, but there wasn't much in the half. There wasn't a ton to speak of for much of the second half either, but then Houston turned it on late.

Brad Davis whipped a good, low cross as the Dynamo looked to get in front of the net. It looked like it would go all the way across the face of goal as Houston struggled to get to the ball on the wet surface, but Clark just barely managed to get a toe to the ball and that is all he needed to do. It found the net and the Dynamo were in front.

Houston added to their lead in extra time when Warren Creavalle found Garcia. The Honduran made no mistake with his finish, leaving Bobby Shuttleworth no chance as the Dynamo grabbed all three points to stay in a playoff spot.
