Scoreboard fire delays start of Columbus Crew, who beat D.C. United

Crew match starts 50 minutes late, but they still beat D.C. United 3-0.

A scoreboard fire at Crew Stadium made for some rather exciting pictures, but ultimately didn't have much impact on the match between the Columbus Crew and D.C. United on Saturday. The fire caused the start of the match to be delayed 50 minutes and eliminated sound through the PA system, but the Crew didn't seem to mind as they won 3-0.

"The Columbus Fire Department addressed the situation swiftly," Crew President and General Manager Mark McCullers said in a statement. "Thankfully there were no injuries whatsoever thanks to our operations staff and the Columbus Fire Department."

The Crew got goals from Dominic Oduro, Josh Williams and Federico Higuain, who also had an assist. The Crew now have 12 points through eight matches and ended a three-match winless run.

United lost their league-worst sixth match of the season and remain stuck on a league-worst four points through eight matches. They have now lost five straight matches and haven’t won since March 9. Last season United never lost more than two straight matches.
