”I was wanting to get back in there pretty quickly, but I think part of the problem was CBS kind of a little bit faltering on their commitment to mixed martial arts, especially after the little escapade in the cage after my last fight on CBS.
“It is disappointing [to not fight on CBS again], and the fact that that could have been easily avoided with the guys not coming into the cage after my last fight. It just gave them an out. But I also think that if CBS had a big problem with it, they didn’t need to put it on their Web site, didn’t need to replay it a bunch of times.”
Dan Henderson Explains Frustrations With CBS
- Dan Henderson vents his frustrations with CBS in an interview with MMA Fighting
Dan is correct that CBS is not fully committed to MMA, but that isn't news to anyone that has been following the sport for a while. They've never hit a consistent ratings boon while they were featuring EliteXC or Strikeforce and it's likely not worth it to give up air-time to MMA right now. The Jake Shields/Gracie Camp brawl with Jason "Mayhem" Miller absolutely provided CBS with the excuse they needed to keep Strikeforce off the network for a while. If they ever see evidence on Showtime that there is someone who brings big numbers of viewers they'll give the sport another shot on the big network.
