Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II Preview

Strikeforce comes back to the big time with a major show from San Jose this Saturday night at 10:00pm ET. Here's a rundown of the action for the night and what should be expected:

- The main event features a rematch between Nick Diaz and KJ Noons for Diaz's welterweight title. Noons dominated Diaz in the first fight and opened up cuts that forced the doctors to stop the fight after the first round. Noons' boxing technique was far too much for Diaz. Nick has absolutely gotten better as a fighter since that November night in 2007 but he relies on a very easy to counter style of striking for someone with good technique, which describes Noons quite well. Of course, Diaz still has the length, is more adjusted to the 170 pound division and is more well rounded. Diaz comes into the bout as a fairly heavy favorite to retain his title but I still think Noons' striking will be too much if Nick tries to fight it out on the feet.

- In her last trip to the Strikeforce cage Sarah Kaufman defended her Strikeforce women's welterweight championship by doing this to Roxanne Modafferi:

Now, after much complaining that she deserves to be on the “main cards” put on by Strikeforce, Kaufman finds herself in the spotlight against tough veteran Marloes Coenen. Coenen is dropping down in weight following a brutal loss at the hands of Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. Kaufman will have to deal with the size of Coenen as well as her well-rounded game.

- Josh "The Punk" Thomson looks to continue his trek back to the Strikeforce lightweight title, a title he lost to Gilbert Melendez in their rematch last December. Thomson will square off with one time top five lightweight Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante. Cavalcante has had a lot of injury problems since his 2008 loss to Shinya Aoki which have caused him to fall off the radar of many fans. Still Cavalcante at his best is a wrecking machine and Thomson is a very high quality and exciting lightweight. This is a tremendous fight on paper and will likely hold up just fine in reality as well.

- In the opening fight of the broadcast two top-shelf welterweight prospects step into the cage when former NCAA wrestler, the undefeated Tyron Woodley faces jiu jitsu great André Galvão. Woodley is coming off a controversial split decision win over Nathan Coy but remains a tough puzzle for anyone to solve. Galvão has had his hands full in his last two fights including a controversial split decision win over Luke Stewart. One man will move his career forward and erase some of those ugly memories while the other will be working from the ground up to repair his career.
