After what seems like months of rampant internet speculation, the UFC has finally revealed its coaches for the 13th season of Spike's 'The Ultimate Fighter.' Former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar and No. 1 heavyweight contender Junior dos Santos will coach a group entirely composed of welterweight fighters. The two coaches will meet in a fight after the season finale, as per usual.
Brock Lesnar And Junior Dos Santos Set To Coach ‘The Ultimate Fighter 13’
Although Lesnar is an unequivocal ratings draw, he seems like a poor choice for a coach. How exactly is someone will only a handful of fights and years in the sport going to help other professional fighters progress? I know the world is full of coaches with less impressive resumes, but Lesnar just seems an odd choice considering his lack of a strong camp. It will be interesting to see how Marty Morgan, Erik Paulson and the rest of the Death Clutch crew work with this group.
Dos Santos doesn't have a long life in the sport either, but comes from arguably the deepest gym in MMA. I just hope his team fares better than Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's stint as a coach for season eight.
I don’t know what Brock Lesnar is thinking taking this fight. For someone who doesn’t seem to like getting hit in the face, he sure picked the wrong dude to step into the cage with. While a win would put him right back into contention for the heavyweight title, a second straight loss puts him at just 5-3 in MMA. I like JDS’ quick hips more than Brock’s chin. I just don’t see Lesnar being able to hammer fist his way to victory in this one.
“The Ultimate Fighter 13” debuts Mar. 30 on Spike with the live finale slated for Jun. 4.
