According to our friends over at MMA Junkie, The UFC and Spike have decided to do away with the preliminary round of fights that hopefuls must win before moving into the house. The new wrinkle to the show's format was added during its seventh season. There was no such trial by fire round during the tenth season as it featured only heavyweights. The upcoming season began shooting today in Las Vegas and will be coached by former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar and No. 1 contender Junior dos Santos.
Elimination Fight For ‘The Ultimate Fighter 13’ Nixed By UFC And Spike
↵Although the first episode of ‘TUF’ is always my favorite exactly for the preliminary round of fights, I think this is actually a pretty good idea. These guys are fighting enough during their time on the show as it is. This is one less opportunity to risk injury. I have a feeling the UFC can feel confident in their decisions to pick and choose a quality cast without making them prove it. This also gives the UFC and Spike much more control from a production standpoint. Rather than have no idea who makes it onto the show until they already begin shooting, the production team can begin working on its cast months before the fact.
