Leonard Garcia may have just changed the face of MMA forever, or at least that of weigh-ins and potential sponsorship tie-ins. For his fight with Chang Sung Jung this past Saturday, Garcia donned a giant foam zombie head modeled on the villains of "Plants vs. Zombies," a highly popular mobile game about race relations, the opium trade, and one brave soldier's love for a Chinese noblewoman in colonial Shanghai.* Garcia did have to take it off to make weight, but did spend the rest of the press conference wearing the outsized foam noggin and warming the hearts of zombie-loving dorks worldwide.

The irony of all ironies is that Garcia would lose to his opponent who just happens to be nicknamed “the Korean Zombie.” If you saw a man drinking a beer and covered in bruises afterward in Seattle, it was Garcia wearing the head as a tribute to the indestructible Korean and the wicked submission Chang Sung Jung inflicted on Garcia for the win.
If we can make one suggestion to the extremely sensitive MMA community--whose sport and insanely conditioned athletes we love, respect, and most of all fear to the point of trembling weeping--it would be that one fight per match occur with huge foam heads like this placed on each fighter. I’m not saying it would demonstrate the immense skill required to fight in MMA, or advance anyone’s career, but I would laugh until I coughed up a kidney, and I know I would not be alone.
P.S. Make one of the fighters Joe Rogan for each fight, and I will buy every pay-per-view you ever sell, and that includes "Brock Lesnar versus routine colonoscopy." Thanks, me.
