VIDEO: Manny Pacquiao Vs. Shane Mosley Fight Camp 360 Preview
Want to know how gigantic of a star Manny Pacquiao is? He's facing a 10-1 to underdog in "Sugar" Shane Mosley, a man with realistically almost no shot at even winning a round against Pacquiao, and it's a fight I'm more excited for than anything outside of Lesnar vs. Dos Santos at UFC 131. Discount my predispositions if want. Underscore what a mismatch and farce of a fight it is. You won't be wrong; you'll just be missing the point. This is the Manny Pacquiao Show. We are privy to an athlete who is bigger than his sport, a once in a generation athlete and the most popular combat athlete on the planet.
As you may or may not know, his Fight Camp 360 series begins Saturday at 12 p.m. ET on CBS. This is part of the mega shake-up in boxing as Top Rank left HBO pay-per-view to sign with Showtime. This program, then, isn’t just about promoting Pacquiao or power struggles among titans for the future of boxing. It’s also about whether Pacquiao and promoter Bob Arum can get the sweet science back on network television.
I can’t get over how nakedly they present the mismatch between Pacquiao and Mosley. It’s a rare candid admission even if it’s covered up as a man in Mosley improperly valued heading into an important fight. Mosley was routed by Floyd Mayweather, Jr and looked horrendous against Sergio Mora. Boxing fans are keenly aware there isn’t much of a challenge and the casual fans either don’t know about Mosley’s woes or don’t care. This about Pacquiao elevating his sport and giving fans what they came to see: complete domination over known (or casually known) commodities.
I know how this movie ends, but I can’t wait to see it. And I am not alone.
