Bellator 35 Results: Jay Hieron ‘Chokes Out’ Anthony Lapsley In Round One

Jay Hieron vs. Anthony Lapsley is our third welterweight quarterfinal bout of the evening at Bellator 35.

Round 1 - Our referee for this bout is Josh Rosenthal. Laspley shoots in for a takedown. Hieron locks on a guillotine, but lets it go quickly. Hieron works for an omoplata, and the two are back standing. Hieron shoots a double and lands in half-guard. Lapsley is pressed up against the cage. Body shots from Hieron. Hieron has an arm around Lapsley’s neck, but isn’t able to work anything. Lapsley looks like he’s floundering in attempt to escape out from under Hieron. Scramble leads to Hieron taking the back. Lapsley begins to turn, but Hieron recognizes and establishes mount. Hieron looks like he wants to use an arm-triangle, but the cage is preventing it. He postures up to land punches, Lapsley bucks, and Hieron grabs the back in the scramble. Hieron locks on a rear-naked choke, but Hieron doesn’t have the hooks in. Josh Rosenthal steps in to stop the bout, believing Lapsley passed out, but Lapsley contests the decision right away.
