Strikeforce and Showtime announced today that the second quarterfinal leg of the Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix is now official for June 18th at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas Texas. The event is billed as Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum and is naturally headlined by the next stage of grand prix bouts. Most notably, Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum. The co-main event is Brett Rogers vs. Josh Barnett.
Strikeforce: Overeem Vs. Werdum Official For June 18th
Strikeforce and Showtime announced that Strikeforce: Overeem vs. Werdum is now official for June 18th. The event will be held at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. The two remaining quarterfinal bouts of the grand prix, Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum and Brett Rogers vs. Josh Barnett, will be held. In addition, the event will feature the return of female MMA superstar Gina Carano.
The winner of the Overeem-Werdum fight will face Antonio Silva the semi-finals while the winner of the Rogers-Barnett bout will face Sergei Kharitonov.
The releases both teased the return of female MMA superstar Gina Carano, but no opponent has yet been named.
A poster released for the event stated a light heavyweight contest between Muhammed Lawal and Ovince St. Preux would also be on the card, but according to Damon Martin Strikeforce has already scrapped that plan:
