Bellator 41 Results: Joe Warren Takes A Controversial Decision From Marcos Galvao

Joe Warren is the current Bellator featherweight champion, knocking out Joe Soto at Bellator 27 for that honor. He is 6-1 in MMA, and is a former Olympic qualifier in Greco-Roman wrestling at 130 pounds. Galvao is 9-3-1 in MMA, and riding a three-fight winning streak in regional promotions. Galvao fought twice in the WEC, losing to both Brian Bowles and Damacio Page.

Round 1 - Our referee is, you guessed it, Jason Herzog. Warren comes out right away with a right hand. He moves in to clinch. Knee to the midsection. He tries to throw Galvao, but ends up on his back. Galvao tries to take the back, but Warren ends up on top after the scramble. Nice right hand from Warren. He steps over into half-guard, but Galvao is able to get a knee in and sweep. They’re standing in the clinch now. Warren throwing knees to the midsection. He tries to throw and ends up on his back again. Galvao has Warren’s back and one hook in. Warren stands and turns. He looks for a guillotine, but Galvao gets an arm in. Galvao slips his head out. Warren tries another takedown, but does not end up on top. Standing again. Nice knee to the midsection from Warren, but Galvao trips him to the mat. Warren back standing. Galvao throwing knees to the midsection. They disengage. Warren landing a left and a right. Nice right hand from Warren. He takes Galvao’s back standing. Galvao turns into Warren. The two trade knees in the clinch. Ten seconds left in the round. Warren completes a double leg.

Round 2 - Big knee from Galvao. He follows with another. Warren comes in with two wild hooks that miss. Warren and Galvao trade knees in the midsection. Nice right uppercut from Galvao. Clinch now. Punches to the midsection from Warren. Nice knee from Warren. Galvao keeping Warren at bay with a jab. Another big jumping knee from Galvao. Galvao looks stronger than Warren so far. Nice right hand from Galvao. Warren responds with punches at clinches. Warren is unable to get Galvao down to the mat. Multiple failed takedowns thus far. Both guys slowing down. A minute left in the round. Big knee from Galvao as Warren steps in. Warren finally finishes a takedown, but Galvao maintains guard. Warren punching Galvao’s thighs. Pretty good left hand.

Round 3 - Warren probably needs to finish, despite my giving him round one. Leg kick cuts Warren’s legs out from under him. Warren looks so weak at the weight. Nice left hand from Galvao. Warren drives forward and puts Galvao on the mat. Right hands from Warren. Galvao scrambles to get back to his feet. Warren has his back standing, and takes him down into guard. Right hands from Warren. Galvao throwing punches and elbows from the bottom. Warren responds with right hands. More rights. And more rights. Warren needs to push here. He’s making no effort to pass the guard. Nice elbow from Warren. Big elbows as the round comes to a close.
