UFC 129 GSP Vs. Shields Press Conference Highlights
Here are some highlights from last night's press conference for UFC 129: St. Pierre vs. Shields. I was there live, but my camera died and the Internet was out. I was basically worthless, but took notes nevertheless.
A few things to note. The larger the event, the dumber the questions get at these events. The regularly attending media who are familiar with the sport and the press conference process naturally get pushed aside with more crowded . You can see some of that nonsense in the very first question in this video.
The press conference also took forever to get started due to technical issues from what I understand. Regrettably, but understandably, Georges St. Pierre and Randy Couture were unable to attend. They both very much needed to be evaluated by medical professionals. But both had a lot of press material to be mined, so to speak. I would've loved to have talked to Couture in regards to a career retrospective and St. Pierre about future decisions. It wasn't meant to be.
I sat next to Gilbert Melendez and Daniel Roberts. Roberts looked fine physically, but utterly dejected after his loss to Claude Patrick. Melendez was bored after the conference took so long to get started. Nick Diaz, off to the side, mostly kept to himself.
As for the news coming out of the conference, watch the video or read our report. Jose Aldo appears ready to fight Chad Mendes at UFC 133, but nothing is confirmed. We don't know what's next for GSP, but a fight against Anderson Silva seems highly unlikely.
