VIDEO: Bellator’s Hector Lombard Flattens Falaniko Vitale
In case you missed last night's Bellator 44 event, here's one of the show's highlights. It's a short clip from a middleweight scrap between champion Hector Lombard and challenger Falaniko Vitale. Lombard is arguably the best middleweight not competing for Zuffa, although it's hard to say with certainty given Lombard's strength of schedule.
In any event, you can see in the video despite Lombard’s somewhat limited gas tank and flat footed stance that the ATT-member and Cuban judoka has clubbing power with fantastic hand speed. In a lazy third-round exchange, Vitale leaves his head up and his body in improper, perpendicular position, which gives Lombard all the space he needs to send a shockwave through Vitale’s brain with a monstrous right hand.
I enjoy these viral videos Bellator releases. Most go nowhere, but the Toby Imada-Jorge Masvidal reverse triangle video did wonders for exposing the brand to folks who otherwise would’ve missed it. Zuffa, of all the major sports leagues, is by far the least-friendly when it comes to use of their video footage. This isn’t a question of who owns the content, but how strongly they enforce proper use of it even to their own detriment. That, by the way, is common. Then again, they don’t need to release viral videos to get customers to watch their product.
