UFC 130: Randy Couture Picks Matt Hamill Over Rampage Jackson
Affliction clothing and Tom Atencio have started putting out videos where former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Randy Couture breaks down major UFC events fight-by-fight, giving predictions along the way. Couture is known for his accuracy in fight predictions and even when wrong at least seems to have homed in on some aspect of a match-up that many don't properly consider or miss altogether.
In this video, Couture surprisingly picks Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson to be upset at UFC 130 this weekend by Matt Hamill. I wasn't able to go quite that far in my predictions, but I certainly see this as way more of a possiblity than most.
As Couture notes and everyone knows, Jackson has the punching power to stop anyone in the division and probably anyone at heavyweight as well. But in addition to there being questions about his enthusiasm and preparation, there’s the undeniable fact that his game has increasingly become solely about striking. And by striking I mean boxing, not kickboxing. Rampage also tends to counterfight more and more now, using what opponents give him to react. That’s fine in certain circumstances, but against a fighter like Matt Hamill who’ll either want to fight at kicking range or look for the takedown, it makes Rampage’s most likely path to score harder for the Memphis native harder to come by.
