VIDEO: Rampage Jackson On Spike TV’s ‘In The Moment’
The UFC added Spike TV's most recent edition of 'In The Moment', this time featuring Quinton Jackson, to their YouTube page. Speaking personally, this may be their best yet. Many experts and fans interpret Jackson's boredom or lack of enthusiasm with the process of prize fighting as regrettable. Certainly a more enthusiastic Jackson is never a bad thing. But Jackson doesn't try to dress up or make sexy something when it doesn't work. More importantly, he's not substituting enthusiasm for a lack of seriousness about the cause. Even if he's not completely amped about fighting Matt Hamill specifically, there doesn't appear to be any trade off in professionalism.
I really respond to that. Jackson is beginning the transition of moving out of prize fighting into the next stage of his career. This isn’t an immediate transfer. It’s a slow, long and undulating path. Most importantly, Jackson doesn’t pretend it’s something it’s not. He isn’t happy about losing privacy, he isn’t overly excited with Hamill as an opponent and training is never something that’s ever going to make him happy.
But he understands how to navigate the process and why the process is important. One can probably quibble with specific aspects of his training, but that he surrounds himself with an apparatus to ensure he’s prepared denotes a maturity and self-awareness fighters (particularly those at his level) often lack.
There aren’t any fireworks here. Jackson doesn’t make controversial statements. No drama, no beef, just a man and his job. That’s very cool.
