UFC 130 Results: Renan Barao Controls Cole Escovedo In UFC Debut

ROUND 1 - Both fighters standing orthodox. Barao opens with punches and pushes Escovdeo into the fence. He picks Escovedo up with a double leg under the rear and dumps him to the mat. Escovedo doing a serviceable job of defending himself, attempts a triangle, but Barao escapes easily. Left hook, right outside leg kick combo from Barao. Escovedo locks up with Barao and pulls guard while uses his legs to keep his head away from the fence. A little more effort from Barao’s ground and pound, but nothing hugely substantive thus far. Referee Mazzagatti stands them up. Escovedo lands a hard jab, but Barao takes Escovedo down again. Hard left elbow from Barao, but Escovedo lands a hard elbow himself. The have been no pass attempts from Barao in this round.

ROUND 2 - Hard left hook to the body from Barao. The Brazilian charges in and eats a right straight that crumples him. Barao recovers and takes Escovedo to the floor. Nice left elbow from the bottom by Escovedo. Barao steps out of Escovedo’s guard and lands a hard outside leg kick. Barao has been stalking every round while Escovedo moves on the outside. Hard outside leg kick by Barao, but Escovedo lands two hard middle kicks of his own. Right straight to the body by Barao and then a body lock takedown works. Escovedo works his head around off the cage, but Barao is working decent GNP on the floor. Referee Mazzagatti stands them up. Escovedo caught a kick from Barao and the two clinch while jockeying for position along the fence. Escovedo pulls guard again. Barao nearly works a sweep just as the bell rings.

ROUND 3 - Barao opens aggressively with a barrage of kicks and a flying knee. The two tie up, so Barao trips him to the floor. Barao still stalking. Hard outside lead leg kick from Barao finds the mark. Escovedo returns the favor, but Barao lands a spinning back fast. And a front kick to the face. Another front kick to the face from Barao, but only lands at a glance. Inside and outside leg kick for Escovedo, but Barao lands a spinning back kick. Barao misses with a flying knee. Barao lands a hard right hand that stops Escovedo in his tracks. The Brazilian follows up with a monster double leg slam. Barao attempts another flying knee, but settles for a takedown instead. Escovedo tries to stand and gets slammed again right as the bell sounds.
