Poor Evan Dunham. After being robbed of a win against Sean Sherk and brutally attacked in a quick loss to a reborn Melvin Guillard, the promising lightweight has encountered another setback: injury. MMA Fighting has the story:
UFC 132: Rafael Dos Anjos Replaces Injured Evan Dunham
The lightweight was forced to pull out of his UFC 132 fight against George Sotiropoulos due to an undisclosed injury, MMA Junkie reported on Tuesday. UFC.com later reported that Rafael dos Anjos had agreed to replace Dunham and will face the Australian Sotiropoulos on the July 2 card.
“Really frustrated that I had to pull out,” Dunham tweeted. “I was really looking forward to this fight. I will be back in there as soon as I am heeled (sic) up.”
It's an excellent moment for dos Anjos. He was on a three-fight win streak before getting his jaw cracked in a loss to Clay Guida at UFC 117. He's certainly being done no favors having to take on a tough test in Sotiropoulos, particularly since dos Anjos' strengths are similar to the Australian's. As for the fight itself, both dos Anjos and Sotiropoulos are legitimate talents who aggressively push pace and hunt for finishes.
I worry about Dunham, though. The inactivity combined with the losses has likely affected what money he has left. One hopes he’s got enough in reserves to get him to the next important fight in his career without too much sacrifice.
