Nate Marquardt was fired from the UFC and yanked from the main event at UFC on Versus 4 due to an undisclosed and unresolved medical issue.
Nate Marquardt Spurns Bellator, Signs With Britain’s BAMMA
Marquardt had talked to America’s Bellator promotion and both their middle- and welterweight champions, Hector Lombard and Ben Askren, did a little bit of feuding with him via twitter and the blogs, but nothing came of those negotiations. Apparently because Marquardt wanted an immediate title shot, not unreasonable for a long-time top ten contender, and Bellator wanted to plug him into their tournament format.

Because of medical privacy laws, neither the UFC nor the athletic commission are allowed to disclose the precise medical issue affecting Marquardt or what steps he has to specifically take to resolve the matter.
Sirb is quoted as saying that Marquardt is indefinitely suspended until he personally clears up the matter. Sirb states Marquardt knows what requirements he must fulfill, and once he resolves them, will no longer be indefinitely suspended.
