Nate Marquardt To Address UFC Cut, Failed Medicals Today

Former UFC middleweight Nate Marquardt will address being fired by Dana White and the Ultimate Fighting Championship today as well as address the nature of his failed medicals that prevented him from headlining UFC on Versus 4 this past Sunday night. Up until now, we do not know the nature of his medical issue nor why it wasn't resolved, but Marquardt states he will address those matters today. His management team also released the following statement on Sunday night before the Versus broadcast:

Nate Marquardt was not medically cleared by the Pennsylvania Athletic Commission at UFC on Versus 4. Nate was looking forward to making his welterweight debut and is disappointed by this unfortunate turn of events. Nate wants to apologize to his family, friends, fans and the UFC. This outcome was certainly not what he wanted. At this time, Nate wants to be with those closest to him so he can evaluate his situation over the coming days.

As for why he waited so long to make a statement when doing so earlier would preclude speculation:

We weighed all the options and presented them to Nate. We felt it was better to wait until he was comfortable. He’d just been fired. He lost a huge pay day. We wanted to respect his wishes and give him time to collect himself. He needed time to talk to his family and to inform his coaches and teammates. He’ll tell the whole story today.

We will update this StoryStream with whatever results come from Marquardt’s statements today.
