Amir Khan met a big name opponent in Zab Judah in the Mandalay Bay, but many hardcore boxing fans knew coming in that Judah was a man who never beat elite opponents when given the chance. Through the first four rounds of the bout that narrative was proven correct. Khan was simply too big and too talented for Judah throughout the bout. The constant aggression of Amir left Judah playing defense and never looking for more than one big fight changing shot.
Khan Vs. Judah Results: Amir Stops Zab In Five
Rounds one through four saw Judah get bloodied by his younger foe as his trainer, Pernell Whitaker, desperately tried to get Zab to open up with combinations.
In the fifth round, Amir started to hurt Judah with his power punches. At one point a left hand buzzed Judah, forcing him back into the ropes. Powerful straight right hands followed from Khan. Eventually a right hand buzzed Zab again and a body shot from Khan followed and sent Judah to the mat.
The blow looked to be directly on the beltline of Judah, but his waistband was high and it was hard to tell if it was an illegal shot or not. Judah chose to remain face down on the mat while the referee stood over him, counting to ten and awarding Khan the KO win.
The moment the referee finished the count, Judah jumped up and began to complain that it was a low blow.
While there may be a case for the punch being illegal, the fact that Judah chose to stay down during a count from the ref, not turn and plead his case and then jump up the moment the count finished looked clearly as though Zab had had enough and chose his way out.
Amir Khan was simply too good for Zab Judah on this night. Even if Zab had gotten up or the referee had chosen to call it a low blow, the stoppage was clearly going to come sooner rather than later.
