Sometimes, we forget that there’s a lot of drama in simply trying to prove one human is faster than another. Sammy Wanjiru and Tsegaye Kebede probably never will, after their dramatic duel on the men’s side of the 2010 Chicago Marathon today.

↵It’s almost impossible to not get chills while watching Wanjiru and Kebede trade the lead back and forth, and watching Wanjiru pull away (he won in 2:06:24, 19 second ahead of Kebede) is equally awesome. On this day, he was faster than the next guy. That’s pretty cool.
↵By contrast, Liliya Shobukova dominated the women’s race. Shobukova crossed the tape in 2:20:25, the fastest marathon by a woman in the past two years, and more than three minutes ahead of her closest competitor.
