Dan Wheldon’s death wasn’t the only loss in the motorsports world this weekend.
Rick Huseman, Off-Road Racing Champion, Killed In Sunday Plane Crash
Champion off-road racer Rick Huseman and his brother, Jeff, both died Sunday when a small plane they were flying in crashed near Barstow, Calif. The pilot was also killed.
Huseman had won 44 off-road races heading into this season and was the 2009 TORC Driver of the Year. He also won the 2010 Lucas Oil off-road series championship.
Huseman was sponsored by Monster Energy Drink and backed by Toyota.
“The entire Toyota Motorsports and TRD family wish to express our sincere condolences to the family of Rick Huseman in view of Sunday’s tragic event that claimed the lives of Rick, his brother, and the plane’s pilot,” Toyota’s national motorsports manager Les Unger said. “Rick was an enthusiastic and extremely talented member of Toyota’s off-road racing program. He was a true champion both on and off the track.”
Huseman was 38.
