Saturday night’s Bud Shootout displayed a form of racing that’s never been seen in NASCAR’s 63-year history: Two-car hookups that dictated the flow of the race.

↵Kurt Busch won the race when Denny Hamlin made an illegal pass on Ryan Newman on the last lap, passing below the yellow line as two two-car drafts came to the finish line.
↵Newman called it “the most unexpected race I’ve ever been a part of” and many drivers said Saturday’s race was unprecedented.
↵But was it a good thing? Many fans seemed conflicted on whether or not they liked the two-car drafts. And the way things are shaping up, the Shootout could very well be a preview of the type of racing we see in the Daytona 500.
