Phoenix International Raceway Weather Forecast: Rain Arrives Later this Afternoon into Sunday Morning

Conditions in Phoenix, AZ: Current Weather Conditions | Look at Doppler Radar | Mobile Friendly Site | Mobile Radar

UPDATE: 2:30PM
Looking at Radar and also model information for later this afternoon and evening I am becoming more convinced that the rain holds off until evening. I think the best chance for rain begins now after 5pm. I will have my radar up and running Here

Previous Discussion:
Rain is still a threat for later today, tonight and into Sunday morning. I think the best time for rain is starting after 4pm local time and till 9am Sunday morning. Rain looks like it will impact the Nationwide race in some way. Once the rain gets here I don’t think it will be a matter of waiting it out. With rain arrival sometime between 4 and 6pm either the Nationwide race gets rain shortened or there is even a possibility of the race being red flagged and postponed to a later time.

I think we will get Sprint Cup qualifying in, and even the Sprint Cup race in Sunday afternoon. The only other concern is how quickly does the rain exit Sunday morning. If it lingers with a few showers, there could be a delay to the Sprint Cup race but I believe they get the race in tomorrow. Detailed forecast below.

Saturday:
12:05 p.m MST (2:05 p.m EST)
Nationwide Qualifying – Breezy, Cloudy, Sct. Showers - temp: 62
1:40 p.m MST (3:40 p.m EST)
Sprint Cup Qualifying – Breezy, Cloudy, Sct. Showers - temp: 64
3:30 p.m MST (5:30 p.m EST)
Nationwide Race – Breezy, Cloudy, Sct. Showers - temp: 63

Sunday :
1:40 p.m MST (3:40 p.m EST)
Sprint Cup Race – Cooler, Partly Cloudy, isolated showers, Mainly dry- temp: 50
