Trevor Bayne Makes Big Gain In NASCAR Twitter Rankings; Danica Still No. 1

How much is a Daytona 500 win worth on Twitter? If you're Trevor Bayne, it's worth about 38,000 Twitter followers.

When we last measured the number of Twitter followers for NASCAR, Bayne had 4,504 (fewer than even Ryan Truex). As of Friday afternoon, he has 43,309, which ranks ninth among all drivers. That’s up from 39th in the previous rankings, which were posted last fall.

Bayne continues to gain followers so quickly, he could pass Kyle Busch later this month.

New tweeters Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson – who share accounts with their representatives – have taken to Twitter very quickly and are also moving up the ladder. Gordon’s account already had a big following because it was a longtime source of information for his fans, and he’s up to No. 11. Johnson, who just started tweeting last week, is already up to 26th and could be in the top 20 by Bristol.

Though their accounts have been successful – as with Joey Logano (28th), who brought his account back after an absence – one mystery is the new account of Kurt Busch.

Busch started tweeting the week before the Daytona 500, but has only attracted 5,600 followers so far.

Meanwhile, Danica Patrick continues to hold the top spot. She became the first NASCAR personality to surpass 300,000 followers earlier this month.

As a reminder, here’s how this ranking works: Drivers who tweet for themselves, team owners, crew members and driver wives/girlfriends are eligible for the list. Public relations accounts and media are currently not included in the rankings.

The rankings are strictly done by number of followers. Here are the rankings for March:
