NASCAR’s most popular driver isn’t happy about the prospect of seeing the NFL lose games to its labor issues.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. Among NFL Fans Pissed About Lockout
Dale Earnhardt Jr., a diehard Washington Redskins fan, said even though the lack of NFL games on Sundays would be “an opportunity” for NASCAR (most of its races in the fall go head-to-head with the NFL), he hoped the players and owners would resolve their differences.
“I’m upset as a fan,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “I don’t know what I’ll do, how I’ll replace my fantasy football league. Really! I mean, I look forward to it. I don’t know what I’ll do with my time.”
Of course, Earnhardt Jr. doesn’t get much time to watch the games on Sundays – at least live. But he occasionally receives Redskins updates and has even gotten fantasy scores via the team radio during caution periods at races.
Plus, after the NASCAR season ends in mid-November, there are still a few weeks of the NFL regular season left where Earnhardt Jr. can sit at home and watch every game.
“It will be disappointing not to have football, especially when our season’s over,” he said. “As a race-car driver, that’s one thing I look forward to about the end of the season: Watching football, watch my team on Sunday. It will be disappointing that we might not have a season.”
Does he blame one party or the other for the lockout? Earnhardt Jr. said he isn’t taking sides.
“I don’t know enough about it,” he said. “I don’t know enough about their problems.”
