Still In Disbelief After Developments In NASCAR Dover Race

If you think about it, Sunday’s NASCAR race at Dover was pretty difficult to predict. The weathermen obviously couldn’t predict it. The pundits couldn’t predict it. Same for the drivers.

With that said, here are a few things about Sunday’s race that I can’t believe:

• I can’t believe Mark Martin took no tires and still got a second-place finish.

• I can’t believe AJ Allmendinger had another mechanical problem – this time a blown engine – after looking like he could finally win.

• I can’t believe Chad Knaus made the wrong pit call. That never happens.

• I can’t believe Matt Kenseth, who hadn’t won in forever until recently, is tied for the series lead in victories.

• I can’t believe NASCAR got all 400 laps in yesterday.

• I can’t believe how, with all the technology and resources available to modern-day meteorologists, they could collectively miss a forecast that badly.

• I can’t believe how empty the stands were – it was both sad and scary.

• I can’t believe FOX actually used split-screen commercials late in Sunday’s race. WOW.

• I can’t believe how grateful I feel toward Pizza Hut, Sprint and FedEx for allowing the split screen during their ads (Other advertisers, please take note! Fans will be appreciative!).

• I can’t believe the Dover casino didn’t get any of my money this weekend.

• I can’t believe there were no multi-car crashes in Sunday’s race.

• I can’t believe the most exciting development involving Sprint Cup drivers this weekend was in the Nationwide race. (Actually, yes I can).

• I can’t believe NASCAR was so insistent that the Kevin Harvick/Kyle Busch probation was for pit road, but then emphatically warned the drivers that any funny business on the track (read: retaliation) wouldn’t be tolerated.

• I can’t believe what a crappy season Joey Logano is having.

• I can't believe Red Bull can't do any better for Kasey Kahne this year.

• I can’t believe there still seem to be tire issues every few weeks in the COT era.

• I can’t believe how much Stewart-Haas has missed it lately.

• I can’t believe it’s already All-Star week. Where has the first part of the season gone?
