Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson Among America’s Highest-Paid Athletes

Three NASCAR drivers made SI.com’s “Fortunate 50” list, which ranks the top 50 American athletes in order of annual income.

Which drivers were they? It’s not too hard to figure out.

Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson each made the Fortunate 50, with Earnhardt Jr.'s $26.5 million earned coming in at No. 13 – the highest of the trio.

Earnhardt Jr. is estimated to earn a whopping $22 million in endorsements, which accounts for most of his income. NASCAR’s most popular driver actually moved up three spots from last year.

Gordon ($23.7 million) is 19th on the list – up 10 spots from 2010 – and Johnson came in 32nd as a result of his $19.3 million income.

It’s a bit surprising that drivers such as Carl Edwards and Tony Stewart weren’t on the list, but apparently they make less than $15.5 million per year (which is the lowest number in the top 50).

Tiger Woods was the top-earning American athlete for the eighth-straight year despite his fall from grace.
