Brian Keselowski, who hasn’t appeared in a NASCAR race since his Cinderella qualification into the Daytona 500, has decided to step out of his K-Automotive Motorsports No. 92 car – for now.
Brian Keselowski Gives Up Seat In Own Car To Dennis Setzer
Longtime family friend Dennis Setzer will replace Keselowski in the No. 92 as it attempts to make the races at New Hampshire and Pocono.
“It was a tough decision to make, because all I really want to do is race,” Keselowski said. “But I have to put the good of my company before my own so I can keep things going and keep trying to get to where we need to be.”
Keselowski made the Daytona 500 but then failed to qualify for Phoenix and Las Vegas. He was then underwent emergency gall bladder surgery and missed several races until returning at the Richmond race in late April.
But Keselowski didn’t make that race, either, nor his following attempts at Darlington and Michigan.
He eventually came to the conclusion that he couldn’t work on both the car, try to attract sponsorship and concentrate on his driving all at the same time.
“I can’t focus on driving this weekend when there is work to be done on the car,” he said. “...I have to keep my family’s company and namesake in business, and that comes first.”
Keselowski said Melling Engine Parts will be an associate sponsor for races at New Hampshire, Pocono and Michigan. But Setzer will be in the car, not Keselowski.
“Dennis is a great friend, and I trust him 100 percent,” Keselowski said. “If I can’t be in the car, Dennis is who I want taking my place.”
