Crew Chief Sorry For Pulling Steve Wallace’s Hair At Montreal NASCAR Race

Pastrana Waltrip Racing crew chief Jerry Baxter apologized Monday for pulling driver Steve Wallace’s hair after the NASCAR Nationwide Series race in Montreal.

Baxter said he was frustrated because it was driver Patrick Carpentier’s final race before retirement and the team “wanted to make it special.” But contact with Wallace spoiled that opportunity, and Baxter said he “let my emotions get to me.”

“We really thought he had a shot for the win and everything boiled over when that chance went away in the wreck,” Baxter said. “Everyone was just racing hard and there was no intent to wreck anyone. There’s no excuse for what I did after the race and I apologize to everyone.”

Team co-owner Michael Waltrip said what Baxter did “was wrong and he knows it.”

“Believe me, I understand how emotional you can get behind the wheel or up on the pit box – I’ve been there,” Waltrip said. “But you have to draw a line and Jerry crossed that line. It’s not what we are all about.”

Baxter also called Wallace to express his remorse. Wallace tweeted about the phone call on Monday:

@stevewallace66: Just talked to jerry Baxter he said hes gonna give me my hair back!!!!!! Haha
