Want To See Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s New Paint Scheme For The 2012 NASCAR Season?

Dale Earnhardt Jr.‘s Hendrick Motorsports team will still be sponsored by Pepsi for 20 races in the 2012 NASCAR season, but the parent company of Amp Energy is transitioning the No. 88 car to a Diet Mountain Dew theme for most of the events.

Amp will still appear on the car in a few select races, but Earnhardt Jr. fans should get used to seeing this look for NASCAR’s most popular driver next season (photos below the jump):

Earnhardt Jr. helped design the car himself. Clearly, the most distinctive features (aside from the aluminum can color) are the green peaks jutting up from the bottom of the car.

They’re futuristic-looking, for sure. Some fans have already said they look like the crystals from Krypton which thwarted Superman’s powers, and some have said they appear to be blades of grass at first glance.

Either way, we can promise you this: The paint scheme is going to sell lots and lots of diecasts.
