NASCAR point standings after Kansas: Brad Keselowski retains Chase lead

Brad Keselowski came into Sunday’s NASCAR race at Kansas Speedway with a seven-point lead in the Chase standings...and left with a seven-point lead in the Chase standings.

But boy, were there ever some crazy developments in between.

Keselowski dodged wrecks all day to maintain his hold on the top spot, and second-place Jimmie Johnson overcame a crash to get a top-10 finish and stay close to the lead.

“I feel like surviving Talladega right here,” Keselowski said afterward. “I said when we finished Talladega that somebody should make, ‘I Survived Talladega’ T-shirts. Well, I didn’t know coming to Kansas it was going to be the same. Just wrecks and accidents and blown tires, everything you can imagine happened today. I felt really lucky to survive it.”

Denny Hamlin lost five points and remained third in the standings – 20 points back – while Clint Bowyer is 25 points behind in fourth. Fifth-place Kasey Kahne is still in contention (albeit barely) with a deficit of 30 points to Keselowski.

Clearly, there’s nothing decided about the championship with four races to go.

“I see it coming all the way down to Homestead,” Keselowski said. “It will be decided there. I’m happy with the season that we’ve had so far and the position that we’re in. It’s going to come down to the last race, that’s pretty obvious after today.”

Here are the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series point standings after Kansas:

  1. Brad Keselowski
  2. Jimmie Johnson -7
  3. Denny Hamlin -20
  4. Clint Bowyer -25
  5. Kasey Kahne -30
