NASCAR at Martinsville weather forecast: Cloudy with small chances of rain

The weather forecast for Martinsville Speedway and the Camping World Truck and Sprint Cup Series races is cloudy with just a small chance of an isolated shower or drizzle.

Martinsville is between two systems – a cold front stalled along the Appalachian Mountains and Hurricane Sandy moving slowly north off the coast of the Carolinas. Wind flow associated with Sandy will keep cloudy skies through the entire weekend and with the front stalled to the west of the track there could be isolated showers and pockets of drizzle.

Sandy’s impact on Martinsville Speedway is minimal this weekend. Sandy is not expected to become a major issue for the United States and the mid-Atlantic until Monday into Tuesday.

My concern for race fans when it comes to Sandy is the drive home after the race. If you are going to the race and your drive takes you north or northwest into the West Virginia mountains or toward Washington D.C., then weather will deteriorate through the day on Monday. This could make for nasty conditions for your trip home and if you can get an early start and home right after the race that would be the best idea before the storm makes landfall.

This is a complicated forecast but with low rain chances, and any rain expected to be light and mostly isolated around the region, I think we will get the Sprint Cup race in on Sunday. Stay tuned because this forecast could change very quickly.
