2012 Indy 500: Michael Andretti, Pat Vidan To Be Inducted Into Auto Racing Hall Of Fame

Michael Andretti and longtime Indianapolis 500 chief starter Pat Vidan will be inducted as part of the Auto Racing Hall of Fame Class of 2012 on Thursday. The ceremony will take place at the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown.

Andretti recorded five Top 5 finishes at the Indy 500 as a driver between 1984 and 2007. Though he never won on the track, Andretti won twice as an owner: Once with Dan Wheldon in 2005, and again in 2007 with Dario Franchitti. Andretti is 10th all-time with 431 career laps led at Indianapolis.

Vidan flagged the Indy 500 as well as many other USAC races from 1962 to 1979. He was to last chief starter to work at track level before safety regulations moved him to a flag stand. Vidan died in 1983, and still holds the record for the most races served as chief starter at the Indy 500.
