NASCAR At Atlanta: Tony Stewart Says He And Matt Kenseth Are Fine

Tony Stewart said he and Matt Kenseth are “fine” after talking Friday morning at Atlanta Motor Speedway, and he hopes to move on from their incident at Bristol.

"It's like we mentioned earlier in the week: We have too much to do the last 10 weeks to be worrying about each other," Stewart told reporters after recording the third-fastest time in practice. "It's just like we always said: There are 43 people out there and they are not always going to agree on the track at the same time. The big thing is getting it done and over with now."

At the start of his interview session, Atlanta Motor Speedway president Ed Clark approached and gave Stewart an Atlanta Braves jersey (the joke being the Braves need someone who can throw as well as Stewart threw his helmet at Kenseth).

Stewart did not seem particularly amused and told Clark to go away before he agreed to pose for a picture with the jersey.

Later, the driver said he understood why fans were so entertained by the incident at Bristol.

“People like emotion,” he said. “Every other sport gets a cool-off period, every other sport you get time to calm down, where our deal, it’s a little bit different – we don’t have that. It’s not like one play is a bad play and you go to another play; the bad deal for us is we are done for the day. That is where it’s different.”
