After much speculation about his future, it was announced Thursday that Ryan Newman will be returning to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2013. And while neither Newman nor SHR officials would confirm the exact length of the contract, it is believed Newman signed a one-year deal.

Although team owner Tony Stewart had repeatedly said he wanted Newman to return next year, Newman’s future with the organization was in doubt after U.S. Army announced that it was withdrawing as the primary sponsorship of the No. 39 after this season.
SHR racing is expanding to three teams next season with the addition of a third car to be driven by Danica Patrick and sponsored by Go Daddy. However, the team still has to find additional sponsorship for Newman as well as Stewart, who announced last weekend that Office Depot was leaving at the conclusion of the season.
Since joining SHR prior to the 2009 season, Newman has scored three victories and twice made the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Overall, the 2008 winner of the Daytona 500 has 16 Sprint Cup victories.
