Marriage ‘irretrievably broken,’ Danica Patrick files for divorce

In the documents filed Jan. 3 in Superior Court of Arizona in Maricopa County, Patrick stated that “My marriage is irretrievably broken and there is no reasonable prospect of reconciliation.”
The separation was initially announced by Patrick on her Facebook page Nov. 20, saying that she was separating from Hospenthal, who is 17 years her senior. At the time she called the split “amicable.”
“This isn’t easy for either of us, but mutually it has come to this,” Patrick said. “He has been an important person and friend in my life and that’s how we will remain moving forward.”
Patrick and Hospenthal have a prenuptial agreement in place and neither side is seeking alimony, according to the petition.
“My spouse and I did acquire community property during our marriage, and it will be divided as indicated on a Settlement Agreement which will be submitted to the court at a later date,” Patrick stated in the filing.
The two met while Hospenthal, a physical therapist, was helping Patrick rehab from an injury. The couple have no children.
