Daniel Hemric’s 2013 success began with creation of Southern Super Series

Daniel Hemric still has an outside shot at unseating Bubba Pollard in the inaugural Southern Super Series championship standings. With just one race -- the All-American 400 -- remaining, Hemric trails Pollard by 48 points with a maximum of 150 left on the table.

But if not for the creation of the Southern Super Series, Hemric says he may not even have been able to race for the Carswell Motorsports No. 98 Super Late Model at all this season.

“In the few years prior, I made a couple of starts for Jake and Deanna Carswell and at the time they were running a bunch of PASS South races and had been doing it a long time with Justin Wakefield,” Hemric told Adam Fenwick in the October Speed Sport Magazine. “When the Southern Super Series created a really solid tour, they (the Carswells) said if they ran, I would be the driver for them.”

Hemric has won twice this season in the Southern Super Series, on the same weekend at Pensacola Five Flags Speedway and Mobile International Speedway respectively in June. His success has also trickled down into PASS competition where he has won twice -- on Aug. 3 at Southern National Motorsports Park and on Oct. 5 at Dillon Motor Speedway.

He finished fifth on Sunday in the Winchester 400 at Winchester Speedway in Indiana.

With several long-distance races under his belt this season, Hemric believes he is ready to take the fight to Pollard at Nashville in the All-American 400.

“We just have to perform and show up and if we have a fast race car like we have all year, all we can do is sit on the pole and win the race,” Hemric told SB Nation on Sunday. “Let’s see if we can do that.”

The All-American 400 is a 300 lap event this season (with a 100-lap Pro Late Model precursor) and will take place on Saturday, November 2nd at historic Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville.
