Daniel Hemric says Southern Super Series championship was most gratifying accomplishment of his career

In an interview with Race 22, Daniel Hemric says that his success in the Southern Super Series has inspired confidence leading into December’s Snowball Derby.

Daniel Hemric is still basking in the glory of winning the inaugural Southern Super Series championship earlier this month and his hoping that his success at Five Flags Speedway will lead him to victory in December’s Snowball Derby.

Hemric has been quite busy since the leaves started changing color, making his first two starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Martinsville and Phoenix. Despite that accomplishment, he says that winning the Super Late Model championship was one of the more gratifying things he has ever accomplished.

The tour included 13 races in the Southeast and featured races at Five Flags, Mobile International Speedway, Montgomery Motor Speedway, Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville and Gresham Motorsports Park.

He won the championship by a single point -- in comeback fashion -- over Super Late Model veteran Bubba Pollard.

“It was one of the most gratifying things to accomplish in a Super Late Model,” Hemric told Race 22 about winning the championship. ”(Team owners) Jake and Deanna Carswell and the entire team gave me everything I needed to compete for a championship.

“It was huge for me and everyone else who put their heart and soul in it all year.”

His two victories in the campaign came on a single weekend during a Gulf Coast Doubleheader, winning at Pensacola on June 21 and the next night at Mobile when he out-dueled John Hunter Nemechek over the final 10 laps.

With his NASCAR debut solidly behind him, Hemric has turned his full attention to the Snowball Derby. This year will be his second attempt at the Tom Dawson Memorial trophy, one year removed from starting eighth but finishing 29th following a scary accident that saw him transported to the hospital.

Following his June victory, Hemric enters the 2013 Derby with both momentum and confidence. His Southern Super Series championship also comes with it an automatic berth into the race.

“Being locked in takes away the stress of having to qualify for the race and takes a lot of weight off your shoulders,” Hemric told Race 22. “Not having to worry about qualifying, you can work on your car in race trim and be prepared for 300 laps.”

SB Nation conducted a sit-down interview with Hemric following his Southern Super Series championship. The full conversation can be viewed below.
