All-American 400: Positive feedback from fans, media highlight inaugural Southern Super Series campaign

With just one race remaining in the season, reviews are pouring in for the inaugural Southern Super Series season and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

Matt Weaver

NASHVILLE -- If based purely on excitement and social media activity, the Southern Super Series has accomplished its primary goal of bringing attention and viability to Super Late Model tour racing across the region.

The fans have packed grandstands across five different tracks in four states and everyone seems to have an opinion on what the tour has meant and what their favorite moment of the season has been. We revealed our own list of the top-5 moments from the season but asked fans, promoters and supporters of the Super Series about their own and this is how they responded:

---

”I’m pretty proud of what we were able to do with the Southern Super Series and honored to have been a part of it. There were some bumps in the road and things that need to be addressed and worked on, but all in all I feel we had a pretty successful inaugural season.

“One moment that sticks out in my mind, and I may be a little biased here, but the Bubba Pollard and Augie Grill battle in the May race at Montgomery was pretty awesome. These are two of the best drivers in the country, bar none, and they raced nose to tail and side by side for like 20 laps, swapping the lead back and forth, and put on a great show for the fans. ”

-Montgomery Motor Speedway GM Paul Boswell

”Well, technically I will not have “seen” a Southern Super Series race until this Saturday, but Bubba and Hemric’s battle at the front and equal respect for each other throughout the season has been refreshing to watch.

”I think the tour has accomplished its goal of bringing successful tour racing to the region. The goal was to get the group of tracks to coordinate together to form a series for the region and they have. I would like to see more tracks, but I think they have to keep it simple and affordable. So I hope they don’t stray too far away from their initial intentions.

-SB Nation Reporter Aaron Creed

This is a great start. Now they have to work on maintaining their car counts. The Nashville opener was good, and it appears that the All-American 400 will be good -- but the other races really fell off. Having 24 cars for a race that pays $20,000 (World Crown 300) is UNACCEPTABLE regardless of the weather.

I’d like to see a move to South Georgia (Watermelon Capital) and South Carolina (Anderson) -- both great venues for this type of series.

-Raceweek Illustrated Host Brandon Reed

I remember feeling like I couldn’t wait for the first race after they announced the Series. I think the series has exceeded expectations in the first season, with nice car counts, good racing and plenty of exposure.

I’d like to see them expand the schedule a little bit, come back to Nashville for a third race and maybe add new stop on the tour.
