2014 Southern Super Series schedule released

The schedule for the second Southern Super Series season has been released but features no new venues or specialty events.

UPDATE: The Ratter 250 at South Alabama Speedway (Mar. 16) has been added to the schedule and has become the new season-opener. It is also the first new venue to appear on the campaign since the first season.

The schedule for the 2014 Southern Super Series season was announced on Monday afternoon and features little change from the inaugural season.

No new venues were announced for the schedule but the original five partner tracks all return. That means the schedule will once again include Mobile International Speedway (Ala.), Montgomery Motor Speedway (Ala.), Pensacola Five Flags Speedway (Fla.), Gresham Motorsports Park (Ga.) and Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville.

The first season of renewed tour racing in the Southeast was highlighted by a fantastic championship battle between Daniel Hemric and Bubba Pollard that came down to the final race -- the prestigious All-American 400 -- and just one championship point as Hemric took the first title in series history.

All returning to the schedule are prestigious races like the Alabama 200 at Montgomery on Sept. 6, the World Crown 300 at Gresham on Aug. 9 and the All-American 400 at Nashville that will also once again serve as the season-ending race on Nov. 1.

As SB Nation reported earlier this week, Dan Spence has been named the Series Director for the Southern Super Series and will also maintain his role as race director for each individual race on the tour. He said that it was important for the Series to grow -- but not too fast in regards to the lack of new venues on the schedule.

“I know all the promoters and those within the series were proud of the quality of drivers that we put on the track each week,” Spence said in a news release. “We are looking to expand the series in the coming years without growing too fast. We have to opportunity to draw from different states and regions at each venue we run at which makes the racing exciting for the fans and competitive for the drivers every time we throw the green.”

Just as it did last year, the season will begin and end in Music City USA. Mobile and Pensacola will host four Gulf Coast doubleheaders just as they did in 2013 while Gresham and Montgomery will host two and three events respectively.
