2013 Daytona 500: Donovan McNabb congratulates Danica Patrick on ‘big win’

Donovan McNabb accidentally congratulated Danica Patrick on winning the Daytona 500, and Twitter noticed.

Donovan McNabb congratulated Danica Patrick over Twitter on Sunday. The tweet was certainly well-intentioned, and would have passed innocuously through the Twitter news cycle if it were clear that McNabb actually knew what he was talking about. Unfortunately for him, it appears he confused Sunday's qualifying for the Daytona 500 itself:

Fans and media quickly pointed out the gaffe. Patrick made history when she became the first women to ever win pole position in a Sprint Cup race on Sunday, but that is a far cry from winning the race itself. Responses ranged from friendly corrections, to less-friendly comparisons to the former quarterback’s knowledge of overtime regulations. McNabb fired back with a technicality:

McNabb is right, of course, but don’t expect that to placate the Twittering masses.
