Daytona Nationwide crash: Two fans remain hospitalized

Two NASCAR fans remain hospitalized following a scary crash at the end of the Nationwide Series DRIVE4COPD 300 on Saturday that left more than two dozen onlookers injured. Kyle Larson’s No. 32 car went airborne into the catch-fence, and debris from the accident went flying into the stands.

The incident prompted NASCAR to review its safety procedures regarding catch-fences. NASCAR is constantly evaluating its safety concerns, according to Steve O’Donnell, who is the organization’s senior vice president for racing operations.

“I think it’s something we’ve always looked at,” O’Donnell said. “This is not something new.

“It’s something we look at with outside experts. This will be an evolving process. If there’s something we can learn today, tomorrow, we’ll implement that.”

Larson walked away from the accident without major injury; Tony Stewart went on to win the race.
