Nationwide Series driver Jeremy Clements has been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR for what the sanctioning body says was an “intolerable and insensitive remark.”

NASCAR has suspended Nationwide Series driver Jeremy Clements indefinitely for a remark he made on Jan. 23.

NASCAR would not disclose what Clements said, only that he violated its code of conduct and that that the incident occurred during an interview the driver gave on Feb. 23. That was same day as the season-opening Nationwide race at Daytona International Speedway, where Clements finished 33rd after an issue with his oil line.
The exact nature of the comments Clements made has not been released, nor has the media outlet he did the interview with. Clements did release a statement Wednesday, but also refused to elaborate.
“I apologize and regret what I said to the NASCAR writer and to NASCAR, my sponsors, my fans, and my team,” he said. “NASCAR has a Code of Conduct that everyone must follow and I unintentionally violated that code. I will not get into specifics of what I said but my comment to the writer was in no way meant to be disrespectful or insensitive to anyone or to be detrimental to NASCAR or the NASCAR Nationwide Series. I will do what I need to do in order to atone for my error in judgment.”
Clements finished 14th in Nationwide points last season with two top-10s, and a best result of 10th at Dover and Indianapolis.
