Jeremy Clements reinstated after completing sensitivity counseling

NASCAR driver Jeremy Clements has been reinstated after completing diversity counseling following a two-week suspension for using a racial slur.

NASCAR has reinstated Jeremy Clements after he successfully completed the stipulations set forth following his suspension for an inappropriate remark he made in an interview.

Prior to the Nationwide Series race Feb. 23 at Daytona International Speedway, Clements used the “n-word” when speaking with a blogger from MTV, which was overheard by a NASCAR official.

NASCAR suspended the driver indefinitely on Feb. 27 and ordered Clements to enroll in an individualized diversity program with Dr. Richard Lapchick at the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sports at the University of Central Florida.

Clements missed two Nationwide races during his suspension.

“In Dr. Lapchick’s judgment, Jeremy has successfully completed the program,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. “We’re pleased that Jeremy has taken these important steps and will return to racing starting this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.”

While Clements is eligible to compete this weekend at Bristol, he will continue to be on probation until Sept. 13.
