This space -- Ranting and Raving -- currently stores all the stories from the old NASCAR Ranting and Raving blog that was hosted at SB Nation from 2008-2012.
I was the content editor of that website for its final four years so I have a bit of an attachment to the name. Once Jeff Gluck was hired in 2010 to run the new SB Nation NASCAR hub, Ranting and Raving became more of a niche motorsports diary, covering oddball topics and grassroots motorsports that didn’t have a place elsewhere.
It proved to be a successful formula with a dedicated fan base that never found a replacement for the style or content that Ranting and Raving provided. In that respect, I’m going to use this space to resume covering the kind of niche events that don’t get a lot of play over at SB Nation NASCAR and IndyCar.
Where those sites will be a lot more tidy and organized, Motorsports Ranting and Raving will be more like a journal space that chronicles some of the more unique and under-covered facets of racing.
For example, I will be in Birmingham this weekend for the IndyCar Grand Prix of Alabama, which will also allow me to make a quick stop at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville for the debut event of the Southern Super Series -- a new Super Late Model tour based in the Deep South.
So don’t be surprised to see the occasional Super Late Model, NASCAR Home Tracks and dirt coverage appear in this space when I’m not covering NASCAR or IndyCar this season.

In fact, Chase Elliott was used in the above photo because he was one of the more-covered drivers during Ranting and Raving’s run as a SB Nation blog. He will make his NASCAR national touring series debut this weekend in the Truck Series race at Martinsville, a topic that will be discussed further as the weekend approaches.
Thanks for reading and I hope you stick around. There will be a lot more to come across all the SB Nation Motorsports hubs.
Weekend Budget:
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and Camping World Truck Series at Martinsville Speedway (Va.)
IZOD IndyCar Series at Barber Motorsports Park (Ala.)
Southern Super Series Late Model tour at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville.
