Southern Super Series set to debut on Saturday at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville

A new racing series is set to debut on Saturday night at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville -- the former Sprint Cup venue -- and will feature some of the best short track Super Late Model drivers in the country.
It’s called the Southern Super Series and will be somewhat similar to the Pro All-Stars Series (PASS) or the Champion Racing Association (ARCA/CRA) in that it will also feature perimeter-rail Super Late Model chassis competing on some of the more traditional Southern short track venues.

The tour is a 16-race, five-track championship that also includes Mobile International Speedway (Ala.), Montgomery Motor Speedway (Ala.), Gresham Motorsports Park (Ga.) and Five Flags Speedway (Fla.)
The circuit will host two of the grand slam of short track races in the World Crown 300 (Gresham) and the All-American 400 (Nashville). Another of the four -- the Snowball Derby -- is not officially a Southern Super Series race but is contested at Five Flags and under the same technical staff that officiates the Southern Super Series events in Pensacola.
Their model and business approach is “old-school” and the promoters of the Series hope to bring Super Late Model racing to a broader audience.
“We’re honored to host not just the opening round of the Southern Super Series on April 6, but also the season finale, the All-American 400, at the end of the year,” said Tony Formosa of Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville in a Series press release. “With all the electricity surrounding the Southern Super Series and this historic racetrack, it can’t be anything but a good combination.
“We’ve seen some of the legends of the sport come through the gates here at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville and maybe the next NASCAR legend will be competing in, and maybe even winning, the Southern Super Series’ first race here on April 6.”
The entry list for Saturday’s season-opening Sunoco 125 contains all of the drivers hoping to chase the season championship but each of the races will also include several one-off entries to potentially shake-up the proceedings.

Points Payout:

The winner of each Southern Super Series race will receive 100 points and each position after earns (in order) 97, 94, 91, 88, 85, 82, 79, 76, 73, 70 and so on. Each position is worth three points less than the previous position.

Qualifying will also pay points with the pole-sitter earning 15 points with second place earning 14 and then 13, 11, 12 and so on. Each qualifier will earn at least one point after position 16. Points at the competition caution are as follows: 10, 8, 6, 4 and 2.
