The two Richard Childress Racing crewmembers, who were arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly assaulting Nelson Piquet Jr., have been suspended and fined by NASCAR.

The two crewmembers, who were arrested for fighting at Richmond, have been fined and suspended by NASCAR.

NASCAR fined Michael Scearce and Thomas Costello $15,000 apiece and each will be suspended for the next four Nationwide Series races for “actions detrimental to stock car racing.”
Scearce and Costello allegedly attacked Piquet and another adult male in the motor home lot at Richmond International Raceway after Friday’s Nationwide race.
The incident followed Piquet kicking RCR driver Brian Scott in the groin on pit road after the two had made contact with one another on the race track in the closing laps.
Scearce, 50, was charged with two misdemeanors, while Costello, 35, was charged with one. Both were released from jail Saturday.
Piquet and Scott along with their crew chiefs were placed on probation until June 26. The probation for two drivers, however, was not for their tussle on pit road, but for using their cars to retaliate against one another.
