NASCAR has announced the format for the inaugural Camping World Truck Series race at Eldora Speedway, which will be titled the “Mudsummer Classic.”

A unique format will be used when the Truck Series visits Eldora Speedway for the first national NASCAR dirt track race in more than 40 years.

The highly anticipated race, to be held July 24 on the Rossburg, Ohio dirt track owned by Tony Stewart, will be 150 laps divided into three segments consisting of 60, 50 and 40 laps, respectively.
Between segments teams will have the opportunity to change tires and make adjustments to their trucks.
Only 30 drivers will make the feature with the top 20 drivers in points being guaranteed a starting spot. The rest of the lineup will be set by qualifying races.
The lineup for the qualifying races will be based on time trials with four locked-in trucks divided among the five heats. In each race the highest finishing non-locked-in truck will transfer to the main event.
The qualifying races will be eight laps with caution laps not counting.
For those drivers who don’t qualify via a heat race, a 15-lap last chance race will be run for positions 26-29. The 30th position will be reserved for the most recent series champion not already qualified. If not needed, the next highest finishing truck in the last chance race will be assigned the final spot on the starting grid.
Eldora represents the first time in more than 40 years that one of NASCAR’s national touring series will compete on a dirt track. The last time was Sept. 30, 1970, when the sanctioning body’s top series competed at the State Fairgrounds Speedway located in Raleigh, N.C. in a race won by Richard Petty.
