The odd configuration at Darlington gives it a rough reputation, but Jeff Gordon, Greg Biffle, and Jimmie Johnson have all twice won races there, with Johnson taking the 2012 edition of the Bojangles’ Southern 500.

Darlington’s a little bit of a strange track, with the turns at each end of the featuring different bankings, angles, and lengths, making it a tough course to race and configure a vehicle for, hence the moniker. It’s got a bit of a reputation for racers spending a lot of time bumping up against the walls.
Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson, and Jeff Gordon have each taken two races at Darlington, with Biffle taking it in back-to-back years in 2005 and 2006. Johnson, last year’s winner, had previously won in 2004. Kurt Busch might be the racer most associated with the track -- he got into an incident after the race in 2011 with Kevin Harvick, and lost to Ryan Craven by .002 seconds in 2003, the closest race in NASCAR history. His brother, Kyle, got into an incident with Ryan Newman after last year’s race.
First up is the Nationwide Series VFW Sport Clips Help A Hero 200 on Friday, then the Sprint Cup event Saturday evening, the last race before the All-Star Race in Charlotte next week.
